Lisa Bohmer has more than twenty years experience in the fields of HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health and the empowerment of women and girls. She is currently Director of global Partnerships with the elizabeth glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, in Los Angeles. Ms. Bohmer has recently consulted with the Nike Foundation, the International Center for Research on Women, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), engenderHealth and the Compton Foundation. She lived and worked in ethiopia over a five year period–including as the director of UNICeF’s HIV/AIDS Program where she introduced services to prevent the vertical transmission of HIV/AIDS and adolescent-friendly voluntary counseling and testing. As Regional Representative of the non-profit organization, Ipas, Ms. Bohmer led efforts to strengthen care for complications of abortion throughout east Africa during the 1990s. As an Associate with the Pacific Institute for Women’s Health (1994–2002), Ms. Bohmer conducted qualitative research on unsafe abortion and adolescent reproductive and sexual health issues to bridge the gaps between communities and health facilities and to bring the perspectives of young women and men to the fore.
