MPH | HP Class of 2017 and 2018

"The program exposed me to a world that I was in, but didn't understand in such a big-picture, conceptual way. I still have probably 10 of my textbooks here on my bookshelf, and I refer to them all the time."
JULIA CAUSEY, MPH
Diabetes, Nutrition & Fitness Coordinator
Health Education Services
Kaiser Permanente Northwest

"The benefits were immediate. Each time I returned from a weekend at UCLA, I brought to work with me a new skill set or a different way of looking at things."
KATHRYN PETERSON, MPH
Executive Director
First 5 Mono County

"My previous education included some general health promotion, but it was focused on the individual. The MPH is much more focused on the community. After going through this program, I was able to get a consulting job as an advisor to the government of Costa Rica, which is a rarity. I attribute this to the training and skills I developed in the program."
KEVIN JABLONSKI, PhD, MPH
Director of Health and Wellness
Los Angeles Police Department

"The program has helped me feel more confident to be a leader, to step forward.
Upon receiving my MPH I made the decision to switch my career entirely to a different position in health. I attribute that to my experiences in the program, especially with the exposure I got to people in my cohort that were doing things vastly different then what I'd ever done in my career. Learning from them and getting exposure to other areas of public health, I was able to make that change."

LAUREL FOWLER, MPH
Deputy Director, Immunization Program
Los Angeles County Department of Health Services

"It's challenging to go through a very rigorous program at the same time you have all of these professional activities and a family as well. But it's an incredibly rich experience."
FEDERICO VACA, MD, MPH
Associate Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine
UC, Irvine School of Medicine

"I transitioned from a subject matter expert to a generalist, which has opened up a lot more doors. If I had not done this, I would have been pigeonholed and I would not have had upward mobility
AKIKO TAGAWA, MPH
Manager, Office of Organizational Development and Training, Public Health Training Unit
LA. County Dept. of Public Health

"Just after I got my MPH, I was promoted into a managerial position."
AMY VALENZUELA-MIER, MPH
Associate Director, Patient and Community Affairs
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company

"The program was the best decision I made in my professional career. It dramatically increased my desire to make a significant contribution in the field of injury prevention and public health."
SHAHRAM LOTFIPOUR, MD, MPH
Director of Undergraduate Medical Education
Assistant Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine
UC, Irvine School of Medicine

"It helped me transform myself into something greater than I was before the program and appreciate things at a greater depth."
GARY JACOB, DC, MPH
Chiropractor and Educator

"This program helped me figure out who I am. Through the coursework it became very apparent that I was a community organizer. I didn't even know there was a name for that!
The time I've spent in the UCLA MPH | HP program has empowered me personally to achieve my own dreams and visions as well as experiment with some programs so I can step into a new path of work when this program is over."

PING HO, MA, MPH
Coordinator, Educational Outreach
UCLA Pediatric Pain Program

"The MPH program helped me to develop skills that have not only strengthened my academic and teaching skills, but has enabled me to pursue my goal of becoming an NIH investigator.
I've learned so much. It's enabled me to take on some public policy roles in the state of California and nationally."

JENNIFER HOLTZMAN, DDS, MPH
Assistant. Professor, Clinical Dentistry
